Measurements

Saved quantities keep full precision; this only changes what is displayed. Snapping applies to sheets opened after the change.

Navigation

Mouse speed applies to the wheel and the zoom buttons. Trackpad speed applies to two-finger scroll and pinch.

Completion privacy · local demo

Optional. Helps improve cursor completion using normalized drawing points, the cursor path before each click, what it snapped to, predictor, response time and accept/reject outcomes. No PDF files or plan text. Suggestions work with sharing off.

Optional, and only with sharing on. Lets takeoff.bid train its own completion model on cropped plan images around your shared drawing steps, with title blocks masked. Never sent to outside AI services. Turning this or sharing off excludes your data from future training; models already trained are not changed.

Demo choices and sample outcomes stay in this browser; nothing is uploaded.

My completion statistics

Current consent period, up to 30 days. Response time runs from suggestion display to your action; it is not model speed. Undo replaces an earlier accept.

Sharing is off. No outcomes are being collected.

Drawing preferences stay in this browser.

Count categories

Hotkeys 1–9 place a category with one click. Saved counts keep the category they were placed with.

How to use takeoff.bid

Tips, shortcuts, and quick reference

Getting StartedProjects, PDFs, and your first workspace
  • New project, then Upload PDF plan. The sample project works without an account.
  • Set the scale before trusting quantities: Scale (S), or Suggest from sheet notes to read the printed scale note or scale bar.
  • Four workspaces share one project: 2D Takeoff, 3D Model, Earth and Estimate. Right-click 2D Takeoff for Roll Plots.
  • Changes save to the project as you go; Undo and Redo in the top bar reverse saved actions.
Plan TakeoffLength, polyline, area, count, and groups
  • Measure (M): drag and release for a length; click points for a polyline or area, double-click, N or Finish ends it; Escape cancels.
  • Curve (R, or A while drawing) bends the next segment of a polyline, perimeter or area: click where it ends, then click a point the arc passes through. Escape cancels just that arc; ending on the first point closes an area with the arc. With Snap on, when both ends sit on an arc in the drawing (a curb return), the bend follows it; hold Shift to bend freely.
  • Count (C): one click, one marker. Keys 1–9 choose count categories; shape, size and color sit in the compact menus in the tool strip.
  • The Measurement Type menu next to Measure switches between Length, Polyline, Square Footage and Perimeter. Deduct an opening from an area from the Deduct menu or the row menu; pitch sits beside it.
  • Groups: Manage groups in the top bar, or Assign to Group from a row's menu. Hidden marks still count.
  • Text (T) places a callout. Right-click a row for Locate on Plan, Copy Link, Edit, colors and removal.
  • Cursor completion: while you draw a polyline or area, a dashed line with a target ring shows the likely next corner as soon as you click and while you move along the drawing: a close, a repeat of your last shape, or the rest of an arc in the drawing (written as a true curve). With Square Footage and nothing drawn yet, resting inside a closed outline ghosts the whole area (Space places it, N saves). Tap Space to accept it, Shift+Space to follow the line to the end of the run, Tab for the next suggestion, Escape to hide it. Holding Space still pans. The Cursor completion chip in the tool options lights up while a suggestion is showing; click it (or use Settings) to turn the feature off.
Scale & NavigationCalibrate drawings and move around them
  • Each sheet keeps its own scale. The chip next to Roll Plot shows the saved scale; calibrate again at any time.
  • Scroll zooms toward the cursor; pinch, Control or Option and scroll also zoom. Shift and scroll pans; a sideways swipe pans.
  • Right-drag pans; double right-click toggles Pan and Select. Space or Alt and drag pans. Arrow keys move the sheet; 0 fits it.
  • G toggles page thumbnails; the sheet selector and Previous and Next move between pages.
Keyboard ShortcutsPlan and Earth key commands
  • V Select · Space Pan · S Scale · M Measure · R Curve (A mid-draft) · C Count · T Text · N Finish · G Thumbnails · 0 Fit
  • Enter adds a point; Command or Control Enter saves; Escape cancels; Delete removes the selected marks; Command or Control Z undoes a draft change.
  • Shortcuts only act while the plan canvas has focus, never inside a text field.
  • Earth: press ? on the map for the full on-map legend.
Save, Export & BackupsAutosave, PDF/CSV export, history
  • Export in the drawer footer downloads the quantities CSV, custom calculation results and the annotated PDF.
  • Saved history (clock icon) lists the last 50 saved actions with undo and redo.
  • Native projects: import a copy of a Construction Takeoff package and export one back with original IDs preserved.
Earth TakeoffMap takeoffs, sidebars, and export
  • Draw lengths, areas, counts and text on the map; materials and depth derive volumes.
  • Saved views and the compass keep your bearings; search by coordinates in the sample, by address after sign-in.
AI takeoffScale notes, symbol match, pipe trace, legend
  • Connect an assistant from the top bar; every AI change arrives as a proposal you review on the plan.
  • Visual Search, Pipe Trace and the legend parser run from the AI Takeoff tab; results are evidence until you accept them.
  • The activity badge names the assistant at work (Codex, Claude, Cursor, Grok) and what it is doing.
SettingsUnits, zoom, and snapping preferences
  • Default unit system, decimal places, snapping and zoom speed live in Settings (gear icon) and stay in this browser.
SupportHelp, feedback, and links
  • Copy Link on any row gives a URL that opens this project on that sheet with the measurement selected.
  • Questions and feedback: hi@takeoff.bid.
